Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Are you a prospective park ranger or conservationist? Earn a Junior Ranger patch by crafting and creating your own Machicomoco tree field guide with one of our rangers through this natural resource inspired Junior Ranger track. Learn how to identify trees and put your skills to the test as you take leaf scrapings to build your own field guide. Participants who attend this track will become a natural resource steward for the park as one of our Junior Rangers. This program will meet at Picnic Shelter 2 and include a short hike.
