Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

The Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park (FOBCLSP) are citizen volunteers who enjoy supporting the park's mission and operation. If you enjoy the outdoors and nature and would like to conserve it for future generations, we invite you to participate in our monthly meetings. Parking is free while attending a meeting.

The FOBCLSP host special events, including the Lights at the Lake Festival held each December, support the Youth Conservation Corps, assist with interpretive programs and activities, assist with trail maintenance, and much more.

As a Virginia State Parks' volunteer, you can receive benefits, ranging from annual park passes, to camping and cabin privileges. For more information on the monthly meetings, to join the Friends Group, or to simply to make a donation to the group, please contact: timkennellvafp@gmail.com
