Start the New Year with a visit to Chippokes State Park. Taking a hike to inspire those New Year resolutions centered on getting or keeping fit is the perfect family-friendly activity. First Day Hikes is an initiative of America's State Parks and hikes are offered in state parks across the country.

Walk off all those holiday meals with a News Years afternoon hike along Quarter Lane. Join a ranger to walk through history from the mid-1820s through the 1920s, and discover what the existing buildings tell us about the people who lived and worked on the plantation. Plantation owners, enslaved peoples, sharecroppers, and tenant farmers all occupied the many buildings between the River House and the Historic Jones-Stewart Mansion. Meet at Farm and Forestry Museum Parking Lot. Walk is approximately 0.5 miles (one way) and paved.
