First Day Hikes 2022

Let's start this year off on the right foot and hike our way into 2022.

This is a free statewide parking day for all Virginia State Parks. Free First Day Hike bumper stickers will be available at the Contact Station and also the Gift Shop from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Create your own experience on one of our many trails or simply hike along the waterfront to stretch your eyes or reset your mind. Self-guided activity brochures will be available at the Contact Station and in the Meeting Facility Gift Shop or available for download. The Meeting Facility fireplaces will be burning to warm you up before or after your adventures.

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - Nature Display and Craft Tables will be outside the Meeting Facility for kids of all ages to enjoy as will dog watering and treat stations.

11:00 a.m. - Meet at the overflow parking lot between Campgrounds B and C for a guided hike to our vernal pools. Master Naturalist Judy McCord will lead the short hike to our semi-permanent wetland areas which many of our park's critters call home and depend upon to reproduce.

5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. - The Gazebo Holiday Lights near the Howe House will be available to enjoy.
