Sailor's Creek Battlefield offers six, self-guided hiking trails with historic markers for the public to explore year round.

Each trail is named for a commander who fought in the last major battle of the Civil War in Virginia, April 6, 1865.

Kershaw Trail: (Gen. Joseph Kershaw, CSA) is a 0.9 mile loop trail.

Custis Lee Trail: (Gen. George Washington Custis Lee, CSA) is a 0.8 mile loop trail.

Wheaton Trail: (Gen. Frank Wheaton, USA) is a 0.7 mile loop trail, that includes a 0.1 mile nature trail spur.

Stagg Trail: (Col. Peter Stagg, USA) is a 0.4 mile linear trail.

Seymour Trail: (Gen. Truman Seymour, USA) is a 0.4 mile linear trail.

Pickett Trail: (Gen. George Pickett, CSA) is a 0.4 mile loop trail.

Each trail is family and pet-friendly. They range in difficulty from Easy to Moderate with varying terrain that is grassy, sandy, shaded, and open, along with elevation changes. Pets must be kept on a leash a maximum of 6 feet in length and controlled by their handlers at all times.

Comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.

Hiking Trails are accessible between the daylight hours of sunrise to sunset. Park Brochures promoting the individual hiking trails, their lengths, difficulty rating and location on the Battlefield may be obtained at the Visitor Center. For questions, contact the Visitor Center (804) 561-7510.
