At Holliday Lake State Park, you're surrounded by Civil War history

You never have to go too far to get a history lesson. Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Museum of the Confederacy are only a few miles away.

Many locals have their own family history and legends to tell as well. It's always great to explore the events of the past. They helped make our country what it is today.

But if you really want to know what the American Civil War was like, you must talk to a soldier, a Civil War Soldier.

Living history interpreters

At our Civil War Campfires, you can do just that. We have first-person living history interpreters from Appomattox Court House National Historical Park at these special campfires. They have very interesting stories to tell.

They will also answer questions. And we have lots of questions, don't we? Like what did those soldiers eat? Hard tack? Goober peas? And just how much corn meal was in a soldier's daily ration? How did they get word from home? What songs did they sing around the campfire? How did they find out about the surrender?
