In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Virginia Scenic Rivers Program, DCR is partnering with Friends of the Rappahannock to present a virtual screening of the film, “Rappahannock.”

The 42-minute documentary explores the ecology, scenery, culture and history of the Rappahannock from its headwaters in the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay.

An 86-mile stretch of the Rappahannock is designated as a Virginia scenic river.

The documentary was written, directed and produced by Academy Award nominee Bayley Silleck for Friends of the Rappahannock.

Friends of the Rappahannock holds all rights to the film and is making it available for special at-home viewing in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Virginia Scenic Rivers Program.

How to view ‘Rappahannock’

Register at the button above. On the morning of Oct. 12, you’ll be emailed a link to access the film via YouTube. Watch it at your convenience any time Oct. 12-15. Then, plan to join the virtual film discussion Oct. 15, 7-8 p.m.

As part of the virtual discussion, Friends of the Rappahannock will share information about work to designate the remainder of the river as a state scenic river.

Released in 2014, “Rappahannock” won the Film Contest at the RVA Environmental Film Festival the following year. For information about the Virginia Scenic Rivers Program 50th anniversary, visit www.dcr.virginia.gov/sr50.
