Ewing, Va. – Wilderness Road State Park will host the Martin’s Station Fall Encampment and Wilderness Road Heritage Festival this October, inviting visitors to experience Virginia’s frontier past while enjoying the spirit of Appalachian culture.
The Martin’s Station Fall Encampment brings to life the sights and sounds of the 18th-century frontier with reenactors demonstrating blacksmithing, cooking, traditional crafts and other daily skills of early settlers. Visitors can step inside the reconstructed frontier fort, interact with living history interpreters and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs of life along the Wilderness Road.
In addition to the encampment, the Wilderness Road Heritage Festival at the Karlin Mansion will feature Appalachian music, regional artisans, heritage demonstrations, food vendors and family-friendly activities. Together, the encampment and festival create a unique opportunity to connect with both the history and traditions of Southwest Virginia.
Event information:
Parking costs $10 per vehicle on Friday and Saturday and $5 per vehicle on Sunday. To learn more about these events, please go to www.virginiastateparks.gov/wilderness-road.
