POWHATAN, Va. – A public information meeting for Powhatan State Park will be held
Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Powhatan Village Building Auditorium located at 3910 Old Buckingham Rd. in Powhatan.

In accordance with the Code of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is conducting a 10-year master plan process for Powhatan State Park. The purpose of a master plan is to guide the management and development of a park by identifying natural, cultural and physical resources, as well as identifying park needs and engaging with the public.

Powhatan State Park is located in the northwest corner of Powhatan County on the historic James River. The park has three car-top boat slides accessing the river as well as diverse wildlife habitat, from open fields to upland hardwood forests. Other amenities include a full-service campground, a primitive canoe-in/hike-in campground, a group campground, multi-use trails, wildlife observation areas, picnic shelters and a playground.

Attend the meeting to learn about how you can contribute to the park’s master plan. Learn about the park’s current facilities and cultural and natural resources, take the public input survey and comment on the need for improvements to park amenities and recreation facilities.

“We encourage the public to come out and learn about the master plan, the next steps in the process and understand how they can comment on what is proposed,” said DCR Environmental Program Planner Joshua Bateman.

We want to hear from our park guests because your comments are important to the park development. Complete the survey about the park to be entered for a chance to win a monthly raffle for a $50 Virginia State Parks gift certificate. Take the survey at https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/other/your-comments-count
