MONTROSS, Va. — Westmoreland State Park is excited to welcome its new park manager, Dave Myers, who brings with him over two decades of experience stewarding parks and natural areas across the country—from the rolling grasslands of California to the alpine open spaces of Colorado and the deserts of Arizona.
Myers’ professional journey is rooted in a lifelong passion for nature that began before his fourth birthday. His earliest memory of the natural world is exploring the hills behind his childhood home in Southern California. Those same hills were saved from development thanks to the grassroots efforts of his family and neighbors—efforts he was part of even as a toddler, charming voters door to door. That land became Chino Hills State Park, and the experience left an enduring impression: that everyday people can make a lasting difference.
Myers has dedicated his career to protecting, preserving and sharing the beauty and importance of nature. His leadership roles have included managing nature preserves, regional parks and even a historic ghost town. Most recently, he served as assistant park manager at Natural Bridge State Park, where he oversaw park operations, built community partnerships and supported conservation efforts.
Working at a park and being surrounded by a nature-rich environment that is a safe place where his daughter can grow up, has always been a priority for Myers. His appointment to Westmoreland is more than a professional milestone, it's also a personal homecoming of sorts. After the birth of their daughter, Bodhi Lemon, who will turn five this June, Myers and his wife Breana had many heartfelt conversations about the kind of life and community they wanted for their family. Virginia rose to the top of their list, and the opportunity at Westmoreland State Park felt like a perfect fit.
“We feel incredibly lucky to be joining this community,” said Westmoreland State Park Manager Dave Myers. “Westmoreland is a true gem—rich in natural beauty, cultural history and a strong sense of place. My wife and our daughter are equally excited to be here. You’ll see us around the community. We look forward to saying hello and getting involved.”
Myers brings not only a wealth of technical knowledge in natural resource management, interpretation, habitat restoration, and visitor services, but also a collaborative, people-centered approach. He looks forward to working with the local community, staff, volunteers and partners to continue protecting and celebrating the park for generations to come.
Be sure to stop by the park office and say hello to him on your next visit.
