Sky Meadows State Park announces special spring break programs

DELAPLANE, Va. - Sky Meadows State Park is gearing up for an exciting spring break filled with outdoor adventures and family-friendly activities. From Saturday, April 12, through Saturday, April 19, visitors of all ages can enjoy a variety of engaging programs designed to celebrate the beauty of spring. 

“Our spring break programming is an excellent opportunity for families, students and nature lovers to connect with the outdoors,” said Park Manager Patrick McNamara. “With guided hikes, wildlife programs and hands-on activities, we aim to provide an educational and fun experience for everyone.” 

Program schedule: 

  • April 12: Backwoods Survival for Hunters and Hikers presented by the Department of Wildlife Resources. 
  • April 13: Spring Ephemerals Workshop: Botany and Bloom Series presented by Shenandoah Chapter Virginia Master Naturalist Paul Guay. 
  • April 14: Flavors of the Past: An open-hearth cooking demonstration and ice cream churning. 
  • April 15: Footsteps Through the Forest: Ranger-guided nature hike for kids. 
  • April 16: Sky High Kite-Making Adventures: Build and fly a kite. 
  • April 17: Self-Guided Adventures: Junior Rangers, Discovery Backpacks, Geocaching and more. 
  • April 18: Critter Chow and a Twilight Hike. 
  • April 19: Spring Habitat Detectives and Stars & Guitars. 

Regular park entrance fees may apply, and some activities might require advance registration or an additional fee. For more information about the park’s spring break programs, please go to virginiastateparks.gov/events or call 540-592-3556. 

Visitors interested in attending multiple spring break programs are invited to reserve one of the park’s primitive tent-only campsites. Each campsite has a 16' x 16' tent pad, picnic table, bear-proof locker, lantern hook and fire pit with a small grate. To reach the campground, campers must hike 1 mile with their gear from the overnight parking lot.
