Smith Mountain Lake State Park announces 2025 Winter Lecture Series

HUDDLESTON, Va. – Smith Mountain Lake State Park is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated Winter Lecture Series, presented by The Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park.  

Now in its 20th year, this event offers an exciting opportunity for residents and visitors to explore the region’s rich history, diverse ecology and vibrant culture through engaging presentations and discussions led by expert speakers. 

Event details 

  • Dates: Feb. 2, March 2, March 23 and April 13 
  • Time: 3 to 4 p.m. 
  • Location: Discovery Center at Smith Mountain Lake State Park 
  • General public admission: Single ticket: $10, season ticket: $30 
  • Friends of SMLSP admission: Single ticket: $8, season ticket: $24

  • Feb. 2: Nuisance Wildlife in Your Backyard and Managing Wildlife Conflicts with DWR Wildlife Biologist Ali Davis 
  • March 2: Women of Poplar Forest with Poplar Forest Coordinator of Historic Resources Mary Kesler 
  • March 23: Smith Mountain Lake Dam: History, Mechanics and the Local Watershed with AEP Process Supervisor Neil Holthouser
  • April 13: Bats - Be Afraid with Virginia Master Naturalist Bonnie Miles 

The cost of admission includes parking. All proceeds go to assist with the environmental and educational programs presented at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. For more information, please call 540-297-6066 or go to virginiastateparks.gov/events.
