Bear Creek Lake State Park once again rings in the holiday season with its ninth annual drive-through light show, Lights at the Lake, on Dec. 2-4 and 9-11. The display is open 5-7:30 p.m. at the park, which is located at 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd., Cumberland, Va.

The event route leads visitors from the park entrance, down to Bear Creek Lake and back through the Chestnut and Black Oak campgrounds. The entire route will be decorated, with many displays that are new to the event this year. Admission to the event is a new, unwrapped toy or a monetary donation to the Cumberland Christmas Mother. Regular parking fees are waived.

Organized by the Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park with the help of many volunteers, “Lights at the Lake is more than a community happening,” noted Park Manager Joey Dayton. “It’s become a regional adventure to enjoy while brightening the hearts of so many who too often go without.”

Additional activities include a free make-your-own ornament station, a s'mores roasting campfire and light fare and seasonal merchandise available for purchase at the Lakeside Snack Bar. On Sunday, Dec. 12, a take-away grilled chicken dinner may also be purchased. Parking for these activities will be available at the beach area which marks the midpoint of the tour.

To reach Bear Creek Lake State Park from U.S. Route 60, go west on Route 622 and south on Route 629 to the park entrance. For more information, contact the park at 804-492-4410 or bearcreek@dcr.virginia.gov.
