Belle Isle State Park master plan to be discussed Sept. 29
A public meeting to discuss the long-range plan for Belle Isle State Park will be Sept. 29, 6 p.m., at the park visitor center, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster.
Staff with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of proposed updates to the park’s master plan.
Each state park has a master plan that guides development. Plans are updated every 10 years.
“Master plans outline the desired future condition for a park when it is fully developed,” said DCR Park Planner Bill Conkle. “We welcome public input in the planning process.”
The draft master plan for Belle Isle State Park proposes renovation of the buildings and historic landscape of the Belle Isle Plantation House, construction of a fishing pier in the day-use area, extensive shoreline stabilization and the addition of a 30-site campground.
The 890-acre park is situated on the Rappahannock River and Deep and Mulberry creeks in Lancaster County.
Comments about this master plan update will be accepted through Oct. 29. Written comments should be submitted to bill.conkle@dcr.virginia.gov.
