Claytor Lake State Park master plan to be discussed Aug. 24
RICHMOND — A public meeting to discuss long-range planning for Claytor Lake State Park will be Aug. 24, 6 p.m., at the park’s Water’s Edge Meeting Facility, located at 6620 Ben H. Bolen Drive, Dublin.
Staff with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of proposed updates to the park’s master plan.
Each state park has a master plan that guides development. Plans are updated every 10 years.
“Master plans outline the ultimate development of a park,” said DCR Park Planner Lynn Crump. “We welcome public input in the planning process.”
The draft master plan for Claytor Lake State Park proposes construction of a new park office and welcome center, trails, picnic shelters, cabins, a three-slip dock and an amphitheater. Improvements would be made to bathhouses, trails and the road that leads to cabins. Restoration of the historic Howe House is also included in the draft master plan.
The 472-acre park is situated on Claytor Lake in Pulaski County.
Written comments about this master plan update will be accepted through Sept. 24, 2015, and should be submitted to lynn.crump@dcr.virginia.gov.
