Staunton River Battlefield State Park master plan to be discussed June 30

RICHMOND — A public meeting to discuss long-range planning for Staunton River Battlefield State Park in Halifax and Charlotte counties will be June 30, 6 p.m., at the park’s Clover Center, located at 1035 Fort Hill Trail in Randolph, Virginia.

Staff with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of proposed updates to the park’s master plan.

Each state park has a master plan that guides development. Plans are updated every 10 years.

“Master plans outline the desired future condition for a park when it is fully developed,” said DCR Park Planner Bill Conkle. “We welcome public input in the planning process.”

The draft master plan for Staunton River Battlefield State Park proposes restoration of the Mulberry Hill Mansion and grounds, expansion of and improvement to park trails, canoe-kayak launches and landings, and updated exhibits at both the Clover and Roanoke Station centers.

The 345-acre park is situated on both sides of the Staunton River.

Written comments about this master plan update will be accepted through July 30. Written comments should be submitted to bill.conkle@dcr.virginia.gov.

DCR manages Virginia’s 36 state parks. For more information about master plans, visit www.dcr.virginia.gov/recreational-planning/masterplans.
