Kiptopeke State Park to host children's exhibit during Eastern Shore Birding Festival Oct. 11

(CAPE CHARLES, Va.) – Kiptopeke State Park will host the Children’s Outdoor Exploration Exhibit on Saturday, Oct.11, in partnership with the Eastern Shore Birding and Wildlife Festival.

The park will feature hands-on activities and exhibits by a variety of sustainability and outdoor recreation groups, including TFC Recycling, the Eastern Shore Wildlife Refuge, the Chincoteague Bay Field Station, Northampton County 4-H and Kiptopeke State Park.

In addition to the Outdoor Exploration Exhibit tent, the park will host a variety of guided walks and programs sponsored by the festival. The trails, fishing pier and beaches will also be open for visitors to explore on their own. Parking fees will be waived, and a shuttle bus will run from Kiptopeke State Park to the Birding and Wildlife Festival headquarters at the Cape Charles firehouse from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Outdoor Exploration Exhibit activities are free.

“Don’t forget your camera because special appearances by the Virginia State Parks mascot Ranger Parker Redfox and by the U.S. Department of Forestry mascot Smokey Bear are on the schedule for the event,” said Dan Jordan, assistant park manager.

Kiptopeke State Park is on the southern tip of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The park features hiking and biking trails, beaches, cabins, camping and a 24-hour lighted fishing pier. Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and offer dozens of festivals and concerts and thousands of educational programs across the state.

For more information about state park activities and amenities, or to make reservations in one of 25 parks with camping facilities or 18 parks with cabins or family lodges, call the Virginia State Parks Customer Care Center at 800-933-PARK or visit www.virginiastateparks.gov.
