Westmoreland State Park is accepting applications for Housekeeper Ranger positions.
Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for cleaning cabins and lodging facilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary focus includes proper and prompt cleaning of cabins, restrooms, campground bathhouses, and other park structures.
- Efficient turnover of overnight facilities before check-in time and ability to work with little to no direct supervision.
- Will be responsible for inventorying linens and cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest.
- Performs the light maintenance and cleaning tasks necessary to operate state park facilities.
- May be required to perform other park-related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurrent basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to stand, bend, and work outdoors exposed to the elements.
- Must be able to work well with other staff and park guests.
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
Additional Considerations:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety practices related to the work site.
- Demonstrate the ability to work on your own.
- Knowledge of the operation of manual and power cleaning equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed.
- Must be able to follow oral instructions.
- Able to perform a variety of cleaning tasks and to tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods of time to perform manual labor safely.
- Ability to handle issues arising in the use of the facility by visitors.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
