Machicomoco State Park is accepting applications for the Maintenance Ranger Supervisor position.

Job Summary:

Machicomoco State Park is seeking a dependable, motivated individual who thrives in a team environment, follows direction well, and can also perform tasks independently with minimal supervision. This position plays a key role in the daily operations and upkeep of park facilities and grounds, while fostering positive interactions with a diverse visiting public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Cleaning and maintaining restrooms and park facilities.
Groundskeeping and landscape maintenance including mowing grass; edging, trimming, raking/removing leaf litter; and cutting fallen trees.
Cleaning bathhouses, campsites, storage buildings, and offices.
Conducting basic facility and infrastructure maintenance.
Providing guidance to seasonal staff and volunteers.
Performing routine maintenance on park equipment and vehicles.
Identifying and reporting repair needs to the appropriate supervisor.
Supervising volunteer projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Possess organizational and problem-solving skills.
Experience in basic maintenance and groundskeeping.
Experience in the following areas: landscaping, building trades, construction, facility/equipment/small engine/vehicle maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, commercial mowing equipment, power tools, hand tools, etc.
Experience working with other employees and volunteers.

Additional Considerations:

Registered herbicide and pesticide technician certification.
Chainsaw operation (sawyer) experience.

Special Instructions:

Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
