First Landing State Park is accepting applications for the Contact Ranger position.
Job Summary:
First Landing State Park is seeking a self-motivated, organized, customer service orientated individual for a part-time office/contact position.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- This position will be expected to preform customer service duties in person, over the phone, and through email; and provide accurate information regarding state park services, local attractions, park fees, trail information, and park interpretive programs. This position will be required to learn how to have a full working knowledge of the park’s point of sale system as well as state park policies. They will assist guests with making reservations, checking in and out, purchasing annual and day parking passes as well as other merchandise when necessary.
- This position will keep all areas of the contact staff cleaned, organized, and stocked with supplies and brochures. This position will perform other office duties as assigned.
- This position is required to work in the Visitor’s Center and the three entrance booths of the park.
- Hours are part-time up to 32 hours a week until December. From December to March hours decrease significantly.
- Shifts expected to work: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 8:00 am to 6:30 pm, 10:00 am to 6:30 pm, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm to 9:30 pm, and 4:00 pm to midnight.
- This position will be expected to work weekends and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Prior customer service and cash handling experience.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
