DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.

Job Duties:

The Trades Technician Supervisor will assist in recurring tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities. In this role, you will be required to ensure that tasks are finished in a high quality and timely manner without supervision. The incumbent will perform janitorial duties including cleaning public bathrooms, bathhouses, and park buildings; facility and ground maintenance duties including but not limited to mowing grass, weed eating, and trash and litter removal; heavy equipment operation such as tractors, skid steers, and bobcats; supervision of seasonal staff to include but not limited to training and orientation of new staff, assigning tasks and following up on assigned tasks, and facilitating communication between shift changes. The incumbent is also responsible for managing traffic and parking control during high volumes of visitation, assisting with customer service/escalation, cash management duties to assist with other department shift changes, assisting with facility and inventory organization and providing accurate information for ordering parts and supplies, and performing specialized vehicle and equipment maintenance and record keeping.

Additional duties will include but are not limited to: Asset data collection, skilled facility repair (drywall installation, electrical, roof installation/repair, bridge/boardwalk rebuilds), skilled equipment repair (small engine specialty services, diagnostic services/parts ordering), oversight of trail/volunteer projects, independent project design and execution, safety equipment inventory/inspection/ record keeping.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks independently as well as within a team.

Additional Considerations:

  • Certifications and work experience related to the upkeep and repair of park buildings, grounds, and equipment including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, small/large engine repair, diesel engine repair, hydraulic systems repair, and landscaping.
  • Knowledge of specialty tools and heavy equipment operations.
  • Experience with supervising and leading a team.

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must be willing to work weekends and evenings. There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30.

A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.

Selected candidate(s) will need to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.

    • Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
    • Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
    • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights.  All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
