DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.

Leesylvania State Park is looking for a self-motivated individual to fill the Interpretive Assistant-Animal Husbandry position. The incumbent will assist with the educational programs and visitor experience department.
This position focuses on the development, implementation, and monitoring of programs that maintain and improve the standards of animal care. The incumbent will oversee all aspects of treatment and handling of educational animals including the maintenance and sanitation of animal enclosures and equipment. This position is responsible for completing animal care logs with accuracy and timeliness, following all guidelines as set forth by the law and government permits. This position also focuses on developing, planning, marketing, and implementing interpretive programs and activities that focus on the resources at Leesylvania State Park. Programs will include guided hikes, canoe/kayak tours, campfires, children’s programs, wildlife programs, and other environmental education programs.
When not conducting programs, the selected individual will assist with staffing the Visitor Center, Potomac Place: Aquatic Nature Center, and maintain upkeep of all interpretive exhibits, equipment, and kiosks. This position may be required to perform park-related duties as needed, as well as other duties as assigned.

Position requires reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. This position may require working days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. No benefits are associated with wage positions, which are limited to, but not guaranteed, 1500 hours of work from May 1 to April 30 each year. Employee must attend mandatory paid trainings. Must wear a uniform (through approved uniform supply company) and wear it in accordance with the VSP uniform policy. Employer participates in e-Verify. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check including a criminal history record check.
