DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Hiring Rate: $13.00 per hour
Position numbers: JR008 , JR025
Weekend and holiday work required. This position starts in March.
Detail-oriented and energetic individuals needed to work in our contact station. Provides information regarding state park amenities and services, and other local attractions. Collects appropriate fees, registers camping guests and processes rentals of river equipment. Provides accurate and detailed information on the campsite reservation procedures, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trails information, educational programs, and area information. Required to operate a computer, cash register, multi-line telephone, and hand held radio. Contact Rangers will be required to inform visitors of park rules and regulations. Must be able to count money accurately, do simple math, and neatly complete daily paperwork associated with cash register transactions.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Additional Considerations: Be 17 years old, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Special Requirements:
For all positions, experience is not required, but is preferred. Weekends and holiday work required. We provide on the job training. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurrent basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.
There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
