DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Westmoreland State Park 2023 Park Ranger Seasonal Summer Positions
Westmoreland State Park located in Montross, Virginia has summer employment opportunities for the following seasonal positions. No benefits are associated with seasonal positions. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with park service!
Housekeeping Ranger: $14.00/hr
Position Numbers: WE007, WE016, WE020, WE021, WE022, WE038
Knowledge of proper cleaning procedures is necessary. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to; work independently or as a team, cleaning park facilities including 32 cabins, Conference Center, Visitor Center/Office, Day Use restrooms and 3 campground restroom/shower buildings. Efficient turnover of cabins by check-in time. Will inventory cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest.
Qualifications: Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License. Successful candidate will have a combination of experience, education and/or training in one or more of the following areas: public relations, housekeeping, maintenance of building, grounds and equipment; general knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and the use of various cleaning supplies/equipment. Must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Must provide excellent customer service and be willing to work in a team environment.

Position Numbers: WE002, WE043, WEO19
Outgoing applicants needed to assist visitors to Westmoreland State Park by providing information regarding services available and other local attractions. Duties include, but are not limited to, operation of cash register and collection of appropriate user fees while maintaining revenue accounting reports. Performs registration procedures for campers and cabin guests. Contact rangers will inform visitors of the rules and regulations for the purpose of protecting and conserving park areas.
Qualifications: Must provide excellent customer service skills and be willing to work in a team environment. Must have reliable transportation. Must be willing to work evening shifts, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Park Interpretive Ranger: $14.00/hr
Position Numbers: WE006, WE009, WE030
Outgoing and responsible individuals with a strong interest in working with a wide variety of customers needed to assist with interpretive duties throughout the Park. As a member of the Park's Visitor Experience team, will plan and present a variety of programs focusing on the natural, environmental, historic and cultural features of Westmoreland State Park. Programs may include campfires, music programs, nature crafts, environmental history, and outdoor recreation skills, guided hikes and kayak trips. Interpreters are responsible for keeping the Discovery Center open and organized. Will also assist with schools groups, scout programs, fairs and park programming. Will inform park visitors of rules and regulations for the purpose of protecting and preserving Park natural areas. May be required to perform park related duties as needed during emergencies or on a non-recurring basis. Be willing to work shift work to include weekdays, weekends and holidays, with occasional evenings. Training will be provided at no cost.
Qualifications: Excellent customer service skills. One year of college with major or minor study in one of the fields of natural sciences or history desirable. Have basic knowledge of Virginia's flora and fauna, and the ability to plan, organize and conduct tours and programs featuring them. Familiarity with outdoor skills techniques in watercraft or hiking helpful. Must be comfortable with public speaking, and dealing with the general public. A valid Virginia Driver's License is required.
Maintenance Ranger: $14.00/hr
Position Numbers: WE010, WE036
Responsible, result-oriented individuals needed who are able to work at times without direct supervision and who can prioritize tasks and positively interact with the public. Performs recurring grounds care, facility and equipment maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities. Includes, but not limited to, cleaning bathhouses, mowing grass, raking/removing leaf litter, trash and litter removal, painting, trail work, cleaning campsites, cabins, meeting facility, linen storage building, office and cutting/bundling firewood for merchandise sales. Knowledge of hand and power tools required. Small engine repair, equipment operation, carpentry and building trades experience preferred.
Qualifications: Must be 17 years old, have a valid Virginia driver's license and reliable transportation. General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies, ability to organize and perform routine cleaning, and maintenance functions. Must be willing to work evening shifts, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Must provide excellent customer service and be willing to work in a team environment.
