DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Hiring Range: $16.00 per hour
Work with minimum supervision, prioritize tasks and interact positively with the public. Job duties includes: supervising the overnight operation and maintenance of park Restrooms and shower facilities. This entails a variety of tasks, which varies according to the day of the week and the number of visitors or activities. Supervising the work of the maintenance staff is a major element of the position. Other tasks throughout the season may include: painting, mowing, trail work, carpentry, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and resource management projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must have the ability to understand simple verbal and written instructions, work in a team environment and attend mandatory paid training to comply with OSHA requirements. Must be able to work with crew members in the performance of their tasks. Must be willing to work three 10 hour shifts Friday – Sunday plus 10 hours on designated holidays as needed and provide some uniform components. Valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous Supervisory experience and/or experience in the following areas is preferred: lawn maintenance, plumbing, electrical repair, construction, facility/equipment/vehicle maintenance and repair. Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, commercial mowing equipment, chain saw equipment, power tools, hand tools, etc., is preferred.
Special Requirements for position:
Must be willing to work weekends and evenings. There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
