In this position, you will join a winning team and be responsible for the following duties:
ï‚§ Work as an integrated team member in support of DCR’s nonpoint source pollution (NPS) reduction efforts.
ï‚§ Implement Virginia’s Nutrient Management Program in assigned service area by preparing Certified Nutrient Management Plans. (Assigned territory will be localities located in the Southern and Central Piedmont areas of Virginia.)
ï‚§ Conduct surveys to verify the implementation of Nutrient Management Plans.
ï‚§ Complete nutrient management plan reviews for regulatory & incentive programs related to nutrient management, such as Chesapeake Bay TMDL and the Watershed Implementation Plan.
ï‚§ Provide or assist with educational programs to targeted groups to reduce levels of nutrients entering ground and surface waters.
Minimum Qualifications
ï‚§ Training and/or experience in Agronomy, Crop and Soil Environmental Science, Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Science, Horticulture, or related areas that provide the needed knowledge and abilities in those fields.
ï‚§ Previous work history, which demonstrates experience working on, and or knowledge of agricultural production practices, nutrient management, and agricultural land-use issues.
ï‚§ Work experience that demonstrates the ability to plan effectively and perform duties with minimum supervision.
ï‚§ Must possess a previous work history and or the ability to communicate orally and in writing with diverse groups of people from varying economic/educational situations.
ï‚§ Must possess strong written communication skills with a previous work history, which demonstrates experience reporting data and completing written reports.
ï‚§ Knowledge of and Proficiency in using MS Office Suite (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and database) and other relevant software.
Additional Considerations
ï‚§ Education and/or Experience in the field of Agronomy, Crop and Soil Environmental Science, Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Science, Horticulture, or related areas.
ï‚§ Experience as a Virginia Certified Nutrient Management Planner - develop Nutrient Management Plans written to meet Virginia Nutrient Management Training and Certification regulations (or equivalent within service area).
Preferred Qualifications
ï‚§ Virginia Nutrient Management Planner Certification or must be qualified and obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
ï‚§ Valid Virginia Driver’s License or ability to attain required.
ï‚§ Fingerprint-based criminal history record check, references, work history, and DMV driving record may be verified prior to employment.
