Pocahontas Premieres is a series of concerts hosted at Pocahontas State Park's spacious amphitheatre.
Unless otherwise noted, Pocahontas Premieres events take place rain or shine. Some events are free, apart from a $5 parking fee. Please see the description below for details. Otherwise, tickets purchased in advance cover parking and are only $8. Save money and buy a season ticket for only $40. Tickets bought on the day of show are $10 plus the $5 parking fee. The amphitheatre is handicapped-accessible. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food and drinks will be for sale. Beer and wine also are available courtesy of River City Blues Society (I.D. required).
May 27 - Kick off Memorial Day weekend with the Embers, a legendary beach music band from North Carolina. Their hits include I Love Beach Music and Far Away Places, among many others. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.
June 18 - Virginia State Parks' 75th Anniversary Celebration Kick-off. Enjoy an evening of jazz varieties and big-band favorites performed by the United States 392nd Army Band. In honor of our birthday, complementary cake and refreshments will be served. Food and drinks will also be for sale. Parking is free for this event. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m.
June 25 - The Best of Elvis. Don't miss this spectacular performance featuring two Elvis tribute artists. Wrenn Mangum opens the evening show with the '50s style Elvis, and Sterling Riggs headlines this event as the King of Rock and Roll, Vegas-style, complete with flashy, rhinestone-studded jumpsuits. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m.
July 9 - The Catalinas have been a fixture of the Carolina beach music scene for nearly 50 years. A horn-driven band that sounds a little like a light version of Chicago, the Catalinas are known for the regional hit You Haven't the Right and the beach-music anthem, Summertime's Calling Me. July 23 - Casper, America's premier party band, is based in Richmond and has a musical repertoire that covers great dance music from many decades and genres, including Motown, rock, funk, swing and country. Aug. 13 - The Seldom Scene headline this bluegrass concert. They're an American bluegrass band formed in 1971 in Bethesda, Md. The Scene has long been regarded as one of the most progressive bluegrass bands as well as one of the finest acts in the entire whole genre. Visit www.seldomscene.com for details. Sept. 11 - Honoring the Heroes of 9/11. Join others in this free concert by the Richmond Concert Band. A $5 parking fee applies. On the 10th anniversary of terrorist attacks on our country, the Richmond Concert Band presents musical selections to honor those who died and recognize sacrifices made by those who stepped up to help. The Richmond Concert Band, directed by Dr. Mark Poland, is the area's oldest community concert band Gates open at 1 p.m. music starts at 2:30 p.m.
Aug. 27 - RESCHEDULED to Sept. 16 - A Led Zeppelin Tribute. ZOSO recreates the music, magic and mystery of a Zeppelin concert. Sept. 3 - RESCHEDULED to Sept. 30 - Labor Day Blues Show with Tom Principato. Legendary guitarist Tom Principato takes the stage to perform an evening of exceptional blues.
