Pocahontas Premieres

Pocahontas Premieres is a series of cPocahontas Premieres logooncerts hosted at Pocahontas State Park's spacious amphitheatre.

Money collected in any Virginia State Park is reinvested into Virginia's award-winning park system. Call 1-800-933-PARK to get tickets now.

Unless otherwise noted, season tickets for the entire series are $40, and tickets purchased in advance of each show are $8. Advance tickets also cover parking for the day. Tickets bought on the day of the show are $10 plus the parking fee. Kids 12 and under get in free. Food and beverages will be available. 5/16/09. Armed Forces Day. Celebrate Armed Forces Day as we honor those who have served in uniform in war and in peace. Don’t miss this performance by the United States 380th Army Reserve Band. It's only $5 per vehicle but is otherwise free. Food and beverages will be available. 6 - 8:30 p.m.

5/29/09. Classical Melodies. Enjoy a blend of traditional classics and contemporary arrangements performed by the Richmond Symphony. It's only $4 per vehicle but otherwise free. Food and beverage will be available. Sponsored by the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department. 7 - 8 p.m.

6/13/09. Rockin' Country. Kick up your heels and stomp your feet to the sounds of the Cedar Creek Band. The band satisfies country music enthusiasts with an exciting stage show and fantastic vocals at every venue. This talented, hard-working group has performed with top national artists such as Gretchen Wilson, Charlie Daniels, Travis Trent and Mary Stuart. They're teamed with Circuit Riders, another impressive Richmond band whose songs include a rich mix of Americana - country, folk, south of the border and rock. 6 - 9 p.m.

6/27/09. Tribute to Elvis. Elvis has entered the park! Sterling Riggs began impersonating Elvis aboard a cruise ship and his show's been a hit ever since. Donning copies of Elvis' elaborate costumes, Riggs makes an impressive entry, and his voice perfectly mirrors Presley's. To get things revved up, you will hear Hamburger James, a hip Richmond band that combines rockabilly, rock n roll, honky tonk and country soul. This is a rain or shine event. 6 - 9 p.m.

7/11/09. A Night of Jazz. Enjoy an evening of jazz beats as Robert Jospe and Inner Rhythm with Heather Maxwell fuse buoyant grooves of salsa, samba, swing, funk and African rhythms into a distinctive sound. Richmond's Jospes ensemble has yubilant energy with dynamic solos and sophisticated arrangements. Opening band is Michael Hawkins and the Band of Brothers, also of Richmond. This is a rain or shine event. 6 - 9 p.m.

7/25/09. Boogie 'n' Blues. Mattie Phifer belts the blues with singing, harmonica and guitar. The powerhouse singer joins top-notch blues musicians for tasteful representations of the blues greats such as T-Bone Walker, Big Mama Thorton, Willie Dixon and more. She's passionate for the blues and it resonates in her performance. Joined by Blues Flash, hear the best blues in town. This is a rain or shine event. 6 - 9 p.m.

7/31/09. Fun on Friday. Don't miss summer's best beach bash. Craig Woolard takes the park stage again. He's been making music since 14. To say that he's a music legend is an understatement. The high-energy Craig Woolard Band represents the best in entertainment. From the moment they hit the stage until the very last song, you'll want to dance and have fun. This is a rain or shine event. 6 - 9 p.m.

8/8/09. Casper - One of Virginia's Best. Casper, America's premier party band, is based in Richmond and has a musical repertoire that covers great dance music from many decades and genres, including Motown, rock, funk, swing and country. This is a rain or shine event. 6 - 9 p.m.

8/22/09. Page Wilson. Come to the swamp with Page Wilson with Reckless Abandon and his special guests. Reckless Abandon is a creative music ensemble gathered by Wilson to present a distinctive live performance rooted in the blues, folk, bluegrass and country traditions of their native Virginia. Reckless Abandon isn't just the band's name; it also describes its approach to music. This is a rain or shine event. 6 - 10 p.m.

9/19/09. Classical Melodies II. Join us again for a blend of timeless classics and modern arrangements performed by the Richmond Symphony as Pocahontas Premieres comes to a close. It's only $5 per vehicle but otherwise free. Sponsored by the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department. 6 - 7 p.m.

Location and directions: The park is in Chesterfield County. From I-95, take Exit 61 and go west on Route 10 to Route 655 which is Beach Road; or take Exit 67, go north on Route 150 to Route 10; go east to Beach Road. The park is four miles on right; or take Route 288 from I-95 to Route 10 East and go one mile to Beach Road. Follow park signs from there. Click here for a Google Map.
