Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Annual Passes for National Guard Members

The Virginia National Guard Passport to Virginia State Parks is a new program that provides free entry to all Virginia state parks for active members of the Virginia National Guard and their immediate family members traveling in the same vehicle. This program was created through legislation passed during the 2023 general assembly session and signed by Governor Glenn Youngkin. Passes are anticipated to be available in July 2023.

How to get a pass

  • To obtain a pass, members of the Virginia National Guard can go through their chain of command. Passes will not be issued directly through state parks. Once obtained, members must have the physical pass in their possession to gain free entry into state parks. Additionally, they may be asked to provide their military ID as proof of active service.

The Virginia National Guard Passport is valid through the end of the calendar year indicated on the pass. This program is an excellent way to support and recognize the service of Virginia National Guard members while promoting the importance of outdoor recreation and encouraging the use of Virginia's natural resources.
