Lo! The square tarp: the chameleon of shelters, the essence of simplicity, the pinnacle of adaptability! We re hosting a tarp clinic the first Saturday of Spring to help you step up your tarp-ology game.

This clinic is primarily geared toward people looking to switch to a tarp as their primary backpacking/camping shelter, but there's definitely a place for those looking to improve their campsite ambiance or learn a new skill. Participants under the age of 16 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian, but all ages are welcome.

This 2-hour class will cover knots, things to consider when selecting a campsite, and five or six different tarp pitches based on the environment and weather conditions.

Space is limited. Reservations must be made in advance through the park office at 804-796-4255. A $15 registration fee can be paid at the office via cash or check the day of the event. Registration includes a 10'x10' tarp and cordage--both yours to keep.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own sleeping pads and bags, but it's not required. We ll meet at the visitor center rain or shine. The program may go longer if you'd like the extra help.
