Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Geocaching and GPS activities

Find parks matching your amenity choices.

Kids geocaching.Geocaching is a fun way to merge technology and outdoor exploration. Folks hide a cache, typically a small container with a log-book and people use a GPS receiver or smartphone app to find it. When a cache is found, the finder goes to www.geocaching.com or to the 'Found' feature on their app to log the visit, maybe upload a photo, and read what others said about it.

Most state parks have at least one cache. They range from simple and quick grabs that are easily reached from a trail to challenging multicaches that require collecting information at one site before moving on to the next. Others, virtual caches, earth caches or waymarks, have no cache box; geocachers usually must log visits to this type of cache by providing information obtainable only by visiting the site.
