Vernal pools are hosts to species such as the Marbled and Spotted Salamanders and are key to their survival. We'll study this natural wonder and try to identify the critters inhabiting this temporary habitat. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult. The round-trip hike will be about one mile on uneven terrain. Please wear water resistant shoes. Dogs must be leashed and will not be allowed near the water's edge.

This program is conducted in accordance with Virginia regulations; park staff possess the proper permits and training to collect and briefly handle wildlife.
