Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Hike to the Chimney: History of Sugar Hill

Join a Park Ranger at Clinch River State Park for a hike on scenic Sugar Hill. The hike will start at the Oxbow Lake Parking Lot and will travel along the Clinch River and head up Sugar Hill to get a breathtaking view of the Clinch River Valley. The hike will stop at the remnants of a colonial era home for a brief discussion on the history of Sugar Hill and the Clinch River State Park.  This is a roughly 4 mile moderate hike with an incline, so please wear well-suited shoes, bring some water, and a hiking stick.
