A public meeting to gather input for the Breaks Interstate Park master plan will be held April 14, 6 p.m., at the park’s conference center, 627 Commission Circle, Breaks, Va.

The master plan is the long-range plan for infrastructure, amenities, roads, funding and staffing at the park. The plan is updated every few years.

During the meeting, an overview of the park’s mission statement, goals and objectives will be provided. These were developed by the Breaks Interstate Park Advisory Committee, which was formed to assist with the master plan. The committee is made up of local residents and park users from both Virginia and Kentucky.

The committee and planners with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will recommend appropriate amenities for the park, based on site analysis and public input. A second public meeting will be held later this year.

The 4,800-acre park is off State Route 80 on the Virginia-Kentucky state line, located in Pike County, Ky., Dickenson County, Va., and Buchanan County, Va. As a bi-state park, it receives support from Virginia’s DCR and the Kentucky Tourism, Parks and Heritage Cabinet.

The park is managed by the Breaks Interstate Park Commission.

For more information about the master plan process, contact DCR park planner Lynn Crump at 804-786-5054 or lynn.crump@dcr.virginia.gov.
