Hungry Mother Festival to be held July 19-21

The annual Hungry Mother Festival, sponsored by the Art League of Marion, will be held July 19-21 at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Va. The festival runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. It features artists, crafters, musical artists, dancers, musicians and a variety of food vendors.

The 40th annual Hungry Mother Festival is the longest running festival held in a Virginia State Park. It is presented by the Art League of Marion in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and in partnership with Charter Media. 

Exhibitors and vendors will be throughout the park, including overlooking Hungry Mother Lake. Items for sale include baskets, decorative wood, pottery, furniture, jewelry, candles, fine art, soaps, stained glass, as wells a food and drinks. Demonstrations of frontier life will be provided by the Frontier Men.

Parking is $6 per vehicle. A special three-day weekend pass is available for $9. The town of Marion will run a free shuttle between the park and downtown, where several weekend events are planned. A free shuttle within the park also will be available.

The Art League of Marion uses festival proceeds to fund college scholarships to deserving Smyth County students continuing their education in art, music and theater. In addition the Art League of Marion uses proceeds to sponsor a countywide high school art show and supports a variety of programs and community causes that promote the arts.
