(Rice, VA)- Activities at Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park on Saturday, April 6, will commemorate the 148th anniversary of the pivotal American Civil War battles fought around Sailor's Creek on April 6, 1865. Activities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee is $5 per car.

Scheduled activities include living history demonstrations of artillery and infantry maneuvers and fire, domestic arts exhibits, encampment displays, an interactive battlefield medical triage exercise and much more.

Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about various military bugle calls; living history interpreters will portray Confederate Marine and Navy personnel; women's aid society, seamstresses, and doll makers will showcase their skills and historical knowledge; period women's apparel, and artifact collections. The Petersburg National Battlefield's gun crew will hold a tutorial on artillery firing.

The daylong program is appropriate for ages five and up. The Friends of Sailor's Creek will sell food and refreshments to benefit park education programs.
Activities will be canceled in the case of rain and will not be rescheduled.

Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is dedicated to preserving the cultural landscape as it was in 1865, and to providing the historic setting to tell the story of the last major battle in Virginia before the surrender of Robert E. Lee's army at Appomattox Court House, and its impact on the citizens of Southside Virginia.

The award-winning Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
