Caledon State Park to Hold 7th Annual Art and Wine Festival

(KING GEORGE, VA.) - Caledon State Park will host the seventh annual Art and Wine Festival Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., sponsored by the Friends of Caledon and Radley Cadillac Chevrolet of Fredericksburg. Caledon State Park is managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

A variety of regional wineries, artisans, caterers and restaurants will have displays in the garden area outside the visitor center. Hay wagon rides will provide tours of Caledon's tree-lined trails.

"The festival is put on every year by the friends group to support educational programming and special projects at the park," said Park Manager Nina Cox. "This year the goal is to raise funds to enhance the park's playground. They also hope to showcase local wineries, bring attention to the beauty and bounty of the area, and provide a day of relaxing outdoor activities."

Local artist John Shaw, a friend of nature and friend of Caledon, had been a featured artist at the festival since its start in 2006. His art can be viewed in the Caledon visitor center and on three wine glasses he designed for the Friends of Caledon before his passing. Thanks to his relative, James Shaw, this year's wine glass will feature another design by John.

The special-event parking fee is $5. Individuals 21 and older wishing to taste or purchase wine must provide a photo ID at the entrance gate. The fee for wine tasting is $10 per person, which includes a commemorative wine glass.

Festival sponsors include Radley Cadillac Chevrolet of Fredericksburg, Dr. Wendy Moore Dentistry DDS, King George Family Chiropractic, R.K. Payne HVAC Inc. and NARFE Credit Union.

Caledon State Park is located at 11617 Caledon Road, King George, Va. For additional information, call the park at 540-663-3861 or the Virginia State Parks website.
