Grayson Highlands State Park Hosts 34th Annual Fall Festival
(MOUTH OF WILSON, Va.) -- Grayson Highlands State Park will host the 34th annual Fall Festival Sept. 25 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Parking is $6 per day.
Sponsored by the Rugby Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, the festival features live bluegrass, old-time and gospel music, food, children’s activities, and arts and crafts.
The Wilburn Ridge Pony Association will auction ponies at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The wild ponies graze in the park and the adjoining U.S. Forest Service’s Mount Rogers National Recreation Area.
“Grayson Highlands State Park has beautiful fall foliage,” said Park Manager Harvey Thompson. “The leaves change earlier in our region of Virginia so our Fall Festival is a perfect opportunity to enjoy early autumn beauty.”
Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the park’s picnic areas, visitor center, and hiking and biking trails.
Grayson Highlands State Park is on U.S. 58 midway between Independence, Va., and Damascus, Va., or 35 miles south of Marion, Va. From Interstate 81, take exit 45 in Marion, go south on Route 16 to Volney, Va., then take U.S. 58 west eight miles.

The park’s full service campgrounds with water and electrical hookups will be open through Oct. 31, 2010, and primitive campsites are open until Dec. 1, 20010.
