Westmoreland State Park is accepting applications for Contact Ranger positions.
Job Summary:
We are seeking outgoing and energetic individuals to serve and assist in various locations throughout the park who provide excellent customer service by welcoming visitors, providing accurate information about park amenities, providing directions to park points of interest, and answering questions about park Interpretive Programs. The Contact Ranger collects parking fees and other fees depending on park's operational policy. This position will be responsible for operating a point-of-sale terminal and handling merchandise sales, as well as equipment rentals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform fee collection, cash management, and maintain records of annual pass holders.
- Provide information regarding park services, amenities, and other local attractions.
- Inform visitors of park rules and regulations.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts
- Assisting customers with merchandise sales.
- Assisting guests with moving and launching rental equipment
- Educating guests on proper use of watercraft and safety equipment
- Ensuring equipment is functional and making minor repairs as needed
- Maintaining a safe and clean work environment by picking up litter and removing trash.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age and able to lift 25 lbs
- Familiarity with customer service, equipment maintenance, and/or merchandise sales.
- Ability to memorize and recall information, perform basic math skills, and operate a computer and cash register.

Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to the Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
