Bear Creek Lake State Park is accepting applications for a Housekeeping Ranger position.
Job Summary:
Bear Creek Lake State Park is seeking a dependable, motivated individual who thrives in a team environment, follows directions well, and can also perform tasks independently with minimal supervision. The primary focus of the Housekeeping Ranger includes proper and prompt cleaning of cabins, restrooms, campground bathhouses, and other park facilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Efficient turnover of overnight facilities before check-in time
- Work independently
- Responsible for inventorying cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest.
- Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks necessary to operate state park facilities.
- Keeps chases organized and stocked and vehicles cleaned and organized.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 17 years or older and have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
- Must provide excellent customer service skills and be willing to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Successful candidate will have a willingness to learn the job and general knowledge of the use of various cleaning supplies/equipment.
- Experience in using computers or other electronic devices.
Additional Considerations:
- Previous experience working in a housekeeping or janitorial setting is preferred.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free parking or admission to all Virginia State Parks.
- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to the Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
