The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring for Ranger Conservation Corps positions! Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.
The Ranger Conservation Corps provides a wonderful opportunity for individuals eager to begin a rewarding career in state parks. This summer program warmly welcomes participants into the world of education and interpretation, allowing them to gain valuable practical experience. Through comprehensive training and hands-on exposure to the vital roles within Virginia State Parks, applicants are not only prepared for entry-level positions but also nurtured in their journey toward making a meaningful impact in our natural spaces.
Candidates accepted into the program will spend 12 weeks working and, in most cases, living in a state park. Participants who perform well are invited to participate the following summer and will be assigned to a different park. Upon successful completion of the program, participants are encouraged to apply for other positions within the state park system.
The Education and Interpretation program will teach participants to lead various educational activities that showcase the park's natural, historical, and cultural resources. These activities include guided tours, children’s programs, kayaking, hiking, campfire gatherings, and evening presentations. Participants will take part in park programs, volunteer efforts, customer service, and training in maintenance or operational tasks.
DCR’s Mission is to conserve the natural, scenic, historic, and cultural resources of the Commonwealth. We invite you to learn more about DCR’s efforts to CONSERVE.
