Hiring Range: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

THE DIVISION
Since 1989, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation has dedicated its Natural Heritage staff to the identification, protection, and stewardship of Virginia's biodiversity. To date, inventory has identified over 2200 conservation sites containing one or more rare species, significant caves, or exemplary natural communities. With over 45 employees dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of Virginia's natural heritage resources, the Division has available the skills of biologists, ecologists, zoologists, conservation planners, environmental resource managers, landscape architects, and data managers.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Environmental Specialist will assist the DCR Natural Heritage Environmental Review Team in the review of the over 3000 projects submitted annually to DCR for natural heritage resources; interface with staff scientists for detailed conservation information on the possible benefits or concerns of the project; and communicate this information to organizations, agencies, and others. Daily tasks include data entry, report preparation, mapping, and ArcGIS Pro project entry and analysis. Likewise, this position is responsible for updating data license agreements and participating in outreach opportunities as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. This is an office position with a hybrid work schedule of at least 25hrs a week Monday-Friday with an occasional weekend day for outreach.
