Job Duties
The Retail Business Manager at Virginia State Parks will be accountable for overseeing generation of enterprise revenue across all parks in the state. This revenue pertains to merchandise, food concessions and boat rentals.
As the custodian of this operation, this individual will not only ensure merchandise for resale follows the State Park Mission but also oversee their effective utilization to generate the desired revenue. The scope of responsibility extends to developing and managing a diverse omnichannel program area that comprises 86 operations dispersed across the state.
Acting as the subject matter expert, the Retail Business Manager will aid in setting revenue goals by analyzing market trends, providing training, and implementing best management practices.
Furthermore, they will be entrusted with devising operational and inventory management strategies, assessing performance metrics, and formulating ad hoc strategies to navigate business fluctuations effectively. Through these responsibilities, the Retail Business Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health to assist in operational efficiency of Virginia State Parks.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated ability to effectively apply and communicate detailed knowledge of operation and inventory management strategies in a clear and concise conveyance of information.
2. Proven track record in evaluating revenue and expenditure performance and implementing ad hoc strategies in response to business fluctuations.
3. Significant experience in establishing revenue and profit goals through the assimilation and analysis of data as well as trends.
4. Proficient in using business software including Microsoft Office Suite and retail management software.
5. Strong financial acumen with the ability to forecast sales and develop both expenditure and revenue budgets.
6. Experience in developing guidelines, rules, and manuals. Ability to provide training to ensure understanding and adherence.
7. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in business administration, or equivalent education and experience required.
Additional Considerations
1. Prior experience in a state park retail management role with demonstrated success in meeting and exceeding sales goals while honoring the state park mission.
2. Experience in retail program administration with more than one offsite operation.
3. Experience with electronic ordering systems, preferably eVA, is highly desired as is experience with Microsoft products, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
4. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
