DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.

Position number: CL057
The Trades Technician position performs the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities. Includes cleaning restrooms, mowing grass, weed eating, raking/removing leaf litter, trash and litter removal, cleaning picnic pads, maintaining park equipment, buildings, and trails. Knowledge of hand and power tools required. Small engine repair, equipment operation, carpentry, welding, and building trades experience preferred. Successful candidate must be able to safely operate a chainsaw after apprenticeship training; demonstrate the ability to safely operate, trailer, and transport tractors, implements, and other heavy equipment on park lands and public roads; and demonstrate a willingness to efficiently operate independent of constant supervision as well as assist in leading and training new staff.
Qualifications: Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation. General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies, ability to organize and perform routine cleaning, and maintenance functions. Must follow direction, take initiative, and responsibly maintain and operate tools and equipment.
Special Requirements:
For all positions, experience is not required, but is preferred. Weekends and holiday work required. We provide on the job training. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurrent basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.
There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
Work is performed outside in all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
