The Division
Virginia State Parks fulfills its mission “to conserve the natural, scenic, historic and cultural resources of the Commonwealth and provide recreational and educational opportunities consistent with the good stewardship of these lands, waters and facilities that leaves them unimpaired for future generations” by operating a system of state parks that encompasses over 73,000 acres; over 2000 campsites; over 300 cabins; over 700 miles of trails; nearly 500 miles of shoreline; nearly 36 lakes and ponds; 11 swimming beaches; 6 swimming pools; and 2 international dark sky sites. Virginia’s state park system is extremely diverse in natural, cultural, historical and recreational resources. The system boasts features including parks in the mountains; on the ocean; on the Chesapeake Bay; on 8 major rivers; on 4 major lakes; 4 rail trails; and 3 battlefield sites. The system also offers over 20,000 educational programs and workshops each year. Visitation tops 10 million visitors annually, which contributes an economic impact of over $200 million to the Commonwealth. The annual operating budget for the system is $45 million. A full-time staff of 318 and a wage staff of over 1000 during the prime season operate and manage the Virginia State Park system. There are 6 districts within the system and State Park Headquarters is located in Main Street Centre in downtown Richmond.
The Opportunity
The Field Staff Administrative Coordinator is responsible for providing Administrative Services Only (ASO) in essential aspects of the State Parks Division and will report to the Chief of Business Revenue Administration. This position will assist the division’s Business and Administration Section with providing support services to ensure that Virginia State Parks’ administrative programs, guidelines, as well as process management meet the needs of the field staff, compliant with state statute, administrative code, and mandates. This position will also assist in coordinating HR functions with the Department of Conservation and Recreation office of Human Resources Management as well as tracking and maintaining the state parks’ staffing profile. Through program development, this position will assist in reducing the administrative burden of field level staff, allowing them to focus on the mission of conserving the resources, providing recreational and educational opportunities, and being good stewards.

Valid VA Driver’s License or ability to attain required. Criminal history record check, references, work history and DMV driving record will be verified prior to employment. Ability to work in diverse conditions including exposure to the outdoors, weather in all seasons, dust, animals and insects. Ability to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, pulling, climbing, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR certifications within 12 months of employment. Position requires shift work, including weekends and holidays.
