DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications (Word) for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.

Hiring Rate: $14.00 per hour
Position Number: CL061
This position involves developing, planning, marketing and implementing educational programs and activities that focus on the natural and cultural resources at Claytor Lake State Park. Programs will include guided hikes, campfires, children’s programs, wildlife programs, and other environmental education programs. When not conducting programs, candidate will assist in staffing the Discovery Room, maintain and upkeep of all interpretive and animal exhibits, equipment and kiosks. Candidate may be required to perform park related duties as needed during emergencies, as well as other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must be comfortable with public speaking and providing excellent customer service to the general public. Must be friendly and outgoing and able to work unsupervised and/or with a team. Proficient with Microsoft Office. Candidate must possess reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. Must be willing to work shift work to include weekdays, weekends and holidays. Must provide your own uniform (pants, belt, and boots) and wear a provided shirt and name tag.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience or education in biology, history, parks and recreation or wildlife studies preferred.
Special Requirements: For all positions, experience is not required, but is preferred. Weekends and holiday work required. We provide on the job training. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurrent basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.
There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
