DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications (Word) for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Hiring Rate: $14.00 per hour
Position Number: CL059
Detail oriented and friendly individual needed to perform tasks as assigned in the gift shop and Water’s Edge Meeting Facility. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting customers, selling merchandise and fishing licenses, and cleaning of gift shop, stock room, caterer’s kitchen, restroom, and meeting room areas. Responsible for keeping merchandise displays and shelving stocked and properly organized. Responsible for setting up tables and chairs in the meeting room for events and rentals. Position provides accurate and detailed information about rental packages offered by the park. Will assist with the weekly inventory and ordering of food and merchandise.
Qualifications: Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to perform highest quality customer service, provide information to guests, and be able to operate a computer, cash register, radio, and telephone. Must have reliable transportation. Must have the ability to meet/work well with the general public. Must be able to reconcile register and perform daily register transactions. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as needed. Must have reliable transportation.
Special Requirements: For all positions, experience is not required, but is preferred. Weekends and holiday work required. We provide on the job training. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurrent basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.
There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
