DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications (Word) for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Hiring Rate: $15.00 per hour
Position Number: CL018, CL019, CL029, CL030, CL031, CL032, CL033, CL034
Outgoing and responsible individuals needed to provide safety for park guests at beach area. Provides First Aid and CPR assistance when required. Informs visitors of the park rules and regulations. Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of beach, and concession area, including trash removal and goose control. May be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurrent basis.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old and have reliable transportation. Must have current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (or be willing to obtain by start date). Must be able to work well with other staff and with park guests in a team environment. Must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Must have reliable transportation.
Additional Considerations: Previous water safety experience preferred, but not required.
*Successful applicants that do not currently hold a required lifeguard certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and Waterfront Certification training will be provided by the park, free of charge, on May 5-7 in Blacksburg*
Special Requirements: For all positions, experience is not required, but is preferred. Weekends and holiday work required. We provide on the job training. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurrent basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.
There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Position does not include benefits. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
