DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.
Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications (Word) for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.
Certain positions require a criminal background check, a conflict of interest financial statement or both. Law-enforcement positions require a fingerprint-based FBI investigation. DCR is an EEO/AA/ADA Employer.

Hiring Rate: $12.00/hr

Weekends and holiday work required.
Outgoing and responsible individuals needed to assist visitors with boat rentals, merchandise sales, and other duties. Primary duties include renting boats, cleaning and organizing equipment, cash register operation, light maintenance duties, and customer service. Boat House Attendants will be required to inform visitors of park rules and regulations. Required to work outside in all weather conditions. Must be able to count money, do simple math, and neatly complete daily paperwork associated with cash register transactions.
Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age and have reliable transportation. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. General knowledge of boating is desirable but not required.
Special Requirements:
Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and evenings. There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with this part-time jobs. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Start date for these positions are yet to be determined but will be in April or May. Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background check. Employer participates in e-Verify.
For all positions, experience is preferred but not necessary. We provide on the job training. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurrent basis.
Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service. The experience gained from working a summer job can boost your college application, give you skills to use your whole life, and provide much needed work references for entering the job market or military after high school or college.
