Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Great American Campout Family Fun Day

June 22, 2019. 1:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The Great American Campout is one of the best days to be in a State Park. This year is focused on Family Fun. We will be hosting programs all throughout the day that are perfect for kids young and old.

1:00 p.m.: Outdoor Ice Cream

We will show you a fun and different way to make homemade ice cream.

3:00 p.m.: Scavenger Hunt

Join our park interpreter on a scavenger hunt around the park. Can you solve the clues that will lead you to the prize at the end?

5:00 p.m.: History Hike

Go on a history hike with a park ranger. We will hike to Captain Staunton Trail and talk about the history of our park and the Staunton River itself.

7:00 p.m.: Fishing 101

End the day with a fun fishing trip. We will escort everyone to our park's private lake and see who can wrangle in the biggest fish. Are you good at identifying fish? If not, no problem, our park interpreter will help to get you started. Ages 16 and up require a valid Virginia fishing license.
