Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Civil War to Civil Rights: The African American History at Sky Meadows

From separation of families during slavery in the mid-1800s, to children without local schools in the mid-1900s, Sky Meadows' history is rich in stories of African American's experience in the Crooked Run Valley. Join staff and volunteers in the Log Cabin to sample a traditional meal of the enslaved population at Mount Bleak. Hear the story of Mrs. Fannie Wood and the first public school for African American students in Fauquier County in the Wash House. Historic house tours begin every half hour at the front porch of Mount Bleak House.
